FROM THE HEART

A Personal Commitment to Research

Andrew Plump loves what he does.

Fighting cardiovascular disease, the world's leading cause of death, is Dr. Andrew Plump's mission as head of cardiovascular discovery at Merck Research Labs.

But, it's not just about research. For Andrew, it's personal.

"As with many of us, heart disease claimed a member of my family—my grandmother—with whom I was extremely close," says Plump. "I really love what I do. It has a lot of meaning to me. Making a difference in people's lives by reducing cardiovascular risk is what moves me."

Dr. Plump and his team of scientists at Merck are committed to discovering and developing medicines to treat cardiovascular disease.

Merck's commitment to advancing cardiovascular care dates back to the 1950’s. While there has been much progress in understanding and treating cardiovascular disease in the last sixty years, it remains an enormous public health challenge around the globe.
