Flex Benefits To Do List
Flex 2002 open enrollment runs from October 15—November 2, 2001. Will you be ready to make your elections? This newsletter includes important information about upcoming changes to Merck’s health care benefits. Be sure to read it carefully...so that you understand all the medical, prescription drug and dental benefit changes that will take effect January 1, 2002.
  • ASAP, take the time to get familiar with Merck’s employee health care guiding principles—and look for ways to factor them into your own health care decisions.
  • ASAP, find out all you can about the Flex 2002 benefit and contribution changes highlighted in this newsletter. Then, take what you’ve learned to make the right coverage decisions for 2002.
  • ASAP, go online for the benefit information and tools you need to prepare for enrollment. View chart for information about where to find benefit details, vendor contacts and decision-making tools.
  • During open enrollment, use EASy Web to enroll online. That way you review your choices—and make your elections real time—and you can print out your own Flex 2002 Benefits Summary and Confirmation.
  • During open enrollment, try to beat the cyber-crowds and enroll early. By taking action—and avoiding procrastination—you’ll be doing your part to speed up the entire enrollment process.
  • Each and every day, think about the things you can do to manage your health and to become a smarter health care consumer. Here’s a list to help you get started:
    • Find out how your health care option rates based on NCQA’s quality criteria;
    • Use an online vendor tool (like Aetna U.S. Healthcare’s DocFind®) to select a primary care physician and schedule an office visit to discuss your health;
    • Take the medications prescribed for you—and refill your prescriptions using Merck-Medco’s home delivery or online programs; and
    • Review the information you receive from Aetna U.S. Healthcare or another vendor regarding your health care claims—and make sure that you and Merck aren’t paying too much as a result of inappropriate or fraudulent billing or administrative error.
