Flex 2002 News:
Two-Year Election Rule Eliminated for the Merck Dental Plan
Currently, the Merck Dental Plan includes a rule that requires
employees who elect coverage under the preventive dental option—or who choose
no coverage in a given year—to continue with the same choice for at least
two years. This rule doesn’t affect most Merck employees since over 93%
of the flex population elect coverage under the comprehensive dental option
or one of the available managed dental plan organizations (DPOs).
To simplify things—and
to provide employees with the chance to make new dental coverage elections
each year—starting in 2002 the Company will eliminate this two-year dental
election rule. This change is particularly important in light of the new
employee contributions that will apply to most dental coverage options beginning
in 2002 (more details).
What These Changes
Mean To You
If you are covered or electing coverage under one of the Merck Dental Plan’s
options, keep in mind:
- Starting in 2002,
the current two-year dental coverage rule will be eliminated. This means
that you have the chance to make new dental coverage elections each
year, regardless of the option you choose.
- For information
about the new employee contributions that will apply to all dental options—including
the comprehensive option, the preventive option and the available managed
dental provider organizations (DPOs), view
chart.
