GARDASIL ® Access Program

Advancing the Dialogue Toward a Healthier Future

Overview Approach Performance Priorities & Goals

The GARDASIL Access Program strives to overcome the challenges to achieving vaccine access in developing countries by empowering lowest-income countries and their partners to conduct programs that bring human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines to people in need.

The GARDASIL Access Program will donate at least three million doses of GARDASIL® [Human Papillomavirus Quadrivalent (Types 6, 11, 16, 18) Vaccine, Recombinant] to organizations and institutions in eligible lowest-income countries to allow countries to gain experience in the implementation of such programs. Approval from the Ministry of Health is a prerequisite for participation.  Designed to accommodate proposals from applicants to conduct smaller scale HPV vaccination projects, rather than nationwide programs, the Program will draw upon learnings and experiences from participating organizations and institutions, thereby contributing to the public knowledge base around HPV vaccine access in lowest-income countries.

The GARDASIL Access Program is made possible by a pledge from Merck and is managed by Axios Healthcare Development (AHD), a U.S. non-profit organization, with strategic guidance provided by the independent GARDASIL Access Program Advisory Board, comprised of international public health experts. AHD administers the Program, reviews and approves applications based on recommendations from the Advisory Board, and coordinates delivery of donated vaccine to recipients. AHD employs technical assistance from Axios International, a public health consultancy specializing in developing and emerging countries. The Advisory Board provides strategic direction, reviews and recommends applications, and offers technical suggestions to optimize the efficacy and quality of the Program.
