Cervical cancer impacts the lives of more than 500,000 women a year, 80 percent of whom live in developing countries.¹ In September 2007, Merck announced at the Clinton Global Initiative a major vaccine access initiative to help address the problem of cervical cancer and other human papillomavirus (HPV) related diseases in lowest-income countries. Through the GARDASIL^® Access Program, Merck pledged to donate at least three million doses of GARDASIL^® [Human Papillomavirus Quadrivalent (Types 6, 11, 16, 18) Vaccine, Recombinant] over five years to support cervical cancer vaccination in lowest-income countries.
