Engaging With Our Stakeholders

Advancing the Dialogue Toward a Healthier Future

Overview Approach Performance

Stakeholder Feedback

We have begun a process of collecting stakeholder feedback to inform our approach to corporate responsibility (CR) and how we measure our performance.  Here are some of the outcomes:

  • During 2007 and 2006, thought leaders in CR related to the pharmaceutical industry advised us to 1) articulate the business case for CR at Merck and place greater emphasis on CR impact; 2) explain how CR is integrated and governed within Merck; and 3) to be more explicit about how we measure and manage our risks. In addition, they asked us for targets and commitments, including more metrics and challenges. And they advised us to create a more robust stakeholder engagement process, as well as consider including stakeholder voices in our annual CR report.
  • In 2007, we met with many investors commited to sustainable investing, shareholder groups, non-governmental organizations and analysts and discussed issues including access to medicines, sales and marketing practices, and clinical trials. To find out more about how we are responding to feedback received, please click here.
  • Throughout 2008 and 2009, we continued to collect stakeholder feedback to inform our approach to CR and how we measure our performance. This feedback helps ensure that our reporting is relevant and meaningful to our readers. To find out more about how we are responding to feedback received, please click here.
