In 2006 through 2008, Merck did not identify any operations at significant risk of forced or compulsory labor, incidents of child labor, or violations of the right to exercise freedom of association and collective bargaining.

In 2008, Merck appointed a new Senior Director, Global Labor Relations, who has overall responsibility for developing labor rights policy and a management compliance system globally.
