- In January, 2009, Merck introduced the Global Policy on Employee Volunteerism, granting Merck employees up to 20 hours of release time annually to volunteer at approved non-profit organizations. The program tracks the number of volunteers, time spent on specific projects and achievements. Through increased employee communications, we will encourage Merck employees worldwide to participate in the Merck Volunteers program.
- In 2009 we will implement a process for employees to accurately record volunteer hours.
- In support of the Corporate Pro Bono Challenge, which Merck signed in 2006, we will encourage at least one-half of Merck's U.S. legal staff to support and participate in pro bono service.
