Product Donations
Merck is a global research-driven pharmaceutical company dedicated to putting patients first. Merck discovers, develops, manufactures and markets vaccines and medicines for a broad range of therapeutic categories. Additionally, Merck devotes extensive efforts to increase access to medicines through far-reaching programs that not only donate Merck medicines but also help deliver them to the people who need them. The Company provides products free of charge through several channels:
- The Merck Medical Outreach Program (MMOP)

- The Merck MECTIZAN Donation Program
In 1987, Merck announced that it would donate MECTIZAN® (ivermectin) for the treatment of onchocerciasis (river blindness) to all who need it for as long as needed until the disease is eliminated as a public health problem. In 1998, Merck expanded that commitment to include the prevention of lymphatic filariasis (LF) in African countries where LF co-exists with river blindness.

- Medicines for Medical Missions
Under the MMOP guidelines, Merck does not directly support individual product donation requests or requests related to medical missions. Instead, as part of the MMOP, Merck donates medicines to the humanitarian organizations MAP International, for their medical mission "Travel Packs"; Interchurch Medical Assistance (I.M.A.), for their Medicine Box® program; and Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB), for their "Physicians on a Mission" program. These programs provide physicians traveling on medical missions with various medicines donated by Merck and other pharmaceutical companies, as well as medical supplies. Doctors traveling on a medical mission can request a Travel Pack, Medicine Box® or Physician on a Mission packs through the MAP International, I.M.A. and CMMB web sites.
- Disaster Relief
When it is appropriate to do so, Merck and the Office of Contributions provides disaster relief as part of its philanthropic outreach. Our relief efforts often include donations of cash and medicines working through established channels and with trusted partners.
