Introduction

Most esophageal disorders that occur in elderly patients also occur in younger patients. However, the presentation, complications, and treatment of these disorders may be different in elderly patients than in younger patients. Esophageal bleeding, esophagitis, perforation, Schatzki's ring, and epiphrenic diverticula are discussed in Ch. 112. Esophageal tumors are discussed in Ch. 113.
