Spinal Tap

To do a spinal tap, the clinician inserts a thin hollow needle into the lower part of the spinal canal. A small amount of cerebrospinal fluid slowly drains out and is collected. People usually lie on their side, but if the procedure is difficult in that position, they may be seated.
