Merck & Co., Inc., Named to Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J., Sept.  8, 2009 - Merck said today that it has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index, published last week. This is the first time Merck has been included on the Index.

Dow Jones Sustainability's annual review considers sustainability leaders from each industry on a global and regional level. The Dow Jones Sustainability indexes analyze corporate economic, environmental, and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards and labor practices.
