Merck Announces Resignation of Peter Loescher, President, Global Human Health

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J., May 20, 2007 - Merck & Co., Inc. today announced the resignation of Peter Loescher, president, Global Human Health.  Effective July 1, 2007, Mr. Loescher, 49, will take on the position of president and chief executive officer at Siemens AG.

"We thank Peter for his contributions to Merck and wish him and his family well in this new endeavor," said Richard T. Clark, chairman, president and chief executive officer.  "Merck remains fully committed to the strategic initiatives and operating goals established for the Global Human Health (GHH) organization.  We continue to be pleased with the strong business performance across all the GHH franchises and regions, and we are confident that it will continue."

Mr. Loescher will remain for a period of time to help with the leadership transition.  Merck expects to name a new leader for the GHH organization soon.
