Every day when I awake, I give thanks to my God. Immediately I begin to plan my routine activities for the day. In these activities I include a variety of exercises according to the state of my health that day, organize craft activities (such as bobbing lace and crocheting) and domestic activities, and visit nursing homes and hospices.

Eduvina Colón Ferrer

I feel very happy to share my knowledge of crafts with people of different ages, especially those who are 45 years or older.

In general, crafts have been for me a medicine, a therapy, because they help me to be alert so that my physical, emotional, and mental health can be at their best. For this reason, I recommend that older people, no matter what their age, interest themselves in doing any craft in order to keep their minds busy. Sharing my crafts and emotions with older people and having conversations with them help me feel useful, and this is beneficial to my health.

Some of these crafts, such as crocheting, bobbing lace, embroidering collars, sewing, and doing fancy stitching, are all great therapy for a sound mind and a healthy body. This is because these tasks require that I moved my wrists and fingers in specific ways and that, above all, I maintain a high level of concentration. When I exercise my mind and body in this way, I can only think positively about myself.

Through the crafts that I create and the instruction that I provide to older people, I maintain a very good state of mental, physical, and emotional health. Although I am 77 years old, I don't feel or look so, and I'm very happy. My experiences with older people have made me stronger, and I have done the same for them. Many of these people were in a state of depression and managed to conquer it. The same is true for people with cancer.
