The Laxative Habit

Laxatives have a place in the treatment of constipation but are only one among many options. Not surprisingly, many people who get relief from constipation after taking a laxative turn to them the next time constipation becomes a concern. Many laxatives are easy to take, and the taste of some may even be appealing.

The temptation is strong for some people to set a goal of moving their bowels at least once every day and to think that laxatives are the best way to achieve that goal. But daily bowel movements are not necessary for good health. The laxative habit is one that is more easily prevented than broken.
