Cardiovascular disease
We have a long history of making an impact in cardiovascular disease. Nearly 70 years after we introduced our first cardiovascular therapy, we continue to advance research for cardiovascular diseases.
Our focus on cardiovascular disease research and treatments
Cardiovascular disease continues to be one of the most serious global health challenges. We strive for scientific excellence and are committed to advancing research for patients impacted by cardiovascular diseases. Our focus on cardiovascular diseases includes heart failure and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
The impact of cardiovascular disease
Annual deaths worldwide from cardiovascular disease in 2021; ~900K annual deaths in the U.S. in 2023
Percentage of adults worldwide living with hypercholesterolemia (also known as high cholesterol); ~86M adults in the U.S. are affected
Cardiovascular disease
We continue to build on our history of innovative therapies in heart disease to help increase our understanding and help patients around the world.
Hypercholesterolemia
Hypercholesterolemia, a type of hyperlipidemia, is a disorder in which there are elevated LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) levels in the blood. About 24% of adults worldwide have hypercholesterolemia, also known as high cholesterol, which is a major causal risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), a leading cause of death. People who have elevated LDL cholesterol levels often have no symptoms, so they may not know they have high LDL cholesterol.
